A distributed database application using web services: Getting started

I started today working on a database application that should be accessible through web services. The reason behind this is that it should feed a web site where the data can be modified and it should also feed a Windows application that manages and monitors the database. In addition its business logic should be accessible to future Windows client applications.

I know my way around in ADO and C# in general, and I once programmed web services with PHP, but I never did this before in C#. So I started looking around for useful technologies until I bumped into Windows Communication Foundation, which is a part of the .NET 3.0 framework.

My quest was over :-). The first diagram on the page looked exactly like what I needed.:
